Ken Manning Memorial - River Tone
19 anglers took part in this weeks competition on the Fast Stretch. With a strong blustery wind blowing downstream presenting proved difficult at times. Lots of large chub were caught and many were lost in the many snags within the river. (probably needs a good flood to wash out the branches/debris). Jon Martin had no trouble in landing 12 good sized fish to win comfortably, winning the golden peg on his way. (2 weeks in a row the golden peg has been won. Best baits were maggots and bread tottted using a stick float.

Stanley Derham Memorial
After all the heavy rain in the past week the River Tone Fast Stretch was too high so the match was moved to the Canal on Creech St Michael Stretch. The Canal was coloured and fished hard and was a struggle to get many bites.
1st Chris Parr(Gappy) 2kg 200
2nd Chris Parr(Jack) 1kg 400,
Mainly roach with the odd perch caught. The Golden Peg was won so a good day for the winner.

Colin Fouracre Memorial Fur & Feather
Colin Fouracre Memorial Fur & Feather was fished on the Fast Stretch this year with 32 entrants. After breakfast at The Princess Royal everyone was set for a good day with the river in good condition with a little colour and at its winter level. With a blustery wind presenting was sometimes difficult but most people fished a stick float trotting through with maggots,caster or bread.
1st Dave Harvey 10kg 780
2nd Ed Mackie 10kg 250,
3rd Gavin Rees 8kg 450.
Dave caught mainly dace and greyling with the odd better chub for an excellent winning weight from peg 1.Ed and Gavin caught some nice chub with the average fish weighing around the 1kg mark.Kevin Gregson won the big fish prize with a chub weighing 1kg 500.With the prizes and raffle afterwards everyone had a great day.

Canal Cup at Charlton
The fishing was hard with heavy showers and a cold wind. Perch made up the weights with one weighing over 2lbs. The water was very clear with just the odd weed patch.

Kevin our match secretary won this match having caught 4 nice tench and two nice perch. Kevin doubled the weight of his nearest competitor.

Waltons Pond
The match at Walton Pond this week fished well despite the water being low. Plenty of colour in the water and fish moving everywhere. Tom the match winner caught five carp for his winning weight on the waggler and straight lead. All his fish were caught on pellet. His biggest fish weighed 7kg 300 gms. John in second place caught mainly bream and skimmers. John's approach differed from Tom, deciding to use the pole, using worm, caster and maggot. .

Walton Pond.
With lots of colour and the pond looking nice a good days fishing was expected, However the carp didnt feed apart from one 7.85kgs mirror caught by John Andrews. Skimmers made up the rest of the weights with no roach showing.

The Ivor Topp Cup - Fished on The Canal at Greenway. With lots of floating weed and little colour fishing was going to be difficult. However this was not the case with tench and rudd making up the winning weights.

The Den Stanley Cup was fished at Thurlbear Pond last Sunday. With 15 anglers present the pond was full making the fish shy. For some bites proved hard to come by. The roach didnt feed and it was carp and bream making up the winning weights.

Dave caught large chub above a weir, Best baits again maggot and bread. Chris Parr was unlucky coming second as he had drawn the golden peg.

17 anglers took part in the latest competition fished at Walton Pond.Tom Magnall had a great day catching 7 carp and 4 large bream to take first place.Most of his fish were caught on pellets.John Dursley also caught well with many large bream & skimmers in his net.Again best baits were pellets.

The Fast Stretch was the venue for the latest Taunton Angling competition.15 anglers took part with Tony Goodland making it two wins on the trot.Big chub were the main species caught with the odd roach dace and grayling.Maggots proved best bait with many chub over 3lbs caught.

This weeks River Shield was fished on the Fast Stretch between Firepool Lock and Bathpool Bridge.With the river in excellent condition expectations were high for a good day even though a freezing easterly wind was blowing.Chub were the order of the day with many caught over 3lbs.
