Welcome to Taunton Angling Association.

Thurlbear Lake Taunton Angling Association was founded around 1948 and currently offers fishing to just over 900 members, We are dedicated to making your angling experience as pleasurable as possible. Whether you're interested in match fishing, carp fishing or pike fishing, we have a venue to suit your needs. We boast some of the best fishing in the South west of England which includes 6 miles of the Bridgwater and Taunton Canal which has been known to produce large nets of Bream and some very large specimen carp and pike. Pleasure nets to 40lbs are not uncommon.

As a result of recent low rainfall we are seeing many tributaries (Particularly those with little or no groundwater 'support' with lower water levels than we would normally expect to see at this time of year. In order to preserve water and protect fish stocks the Environment Agency have issued the following guidelines:

Make repairs to leaky sluices or level controls structures to help preserve valuable water resources.
Consider whether or not current stocks are sustainable given the possibility of reducedwater levels and low dissolved oxygen during the summer period.
Thin out small or unwanted fish species now which may preserve valuable stocks later (E.A consents required)
Consider the use of keepnets. In locations where matches are regularly fished consider the use of multiple weigh-ins to avoid unnecessary stress to fish stocks.
Consider temporary closure of fisheries during adverse weather conditions.
Ensure that you have access to water pumps, aeration equipment and generators if you believe your fishery may be at risk from low dissolved oxygen levels due to algal growth, low water levels or over-crowding.
Inspect early in the morning, to observe fish at a time when typically the lowest dissolved oxygen levels occur. (The fish will be gasping for air and on the surface if this is taking place.)

If you see any fish in distress in any river system or any Association waters please notify the Environment Agency immediately by calling the National Incident Hotline on 0800 80 70 60

All Anglers who wish to purchase tickets for wych lodge lake must provide identification at the time of purchase....for those of you that are members of the club you must produce your taunton licence....No identification No ticket! Wych lodge tickets are only available from The Taunton Angling Centre.
